Doodle - Voting for presentation slot

Hello All
For voting for presentation slots in doodle…I notice that there are 2-3 entries for some people… its going to confuse the total. There is a delete/edit entry at the bottom of page. If you could go there and delete redundant entries and edit the original entry that has your selection, that would be nice.

I happened to notice this today and thought would suggest.

Appreciate if you could do it.

Thanks

Could you submit your past essays by email?

Hi all,

I’m having a good time going through your reviews and have particularly enjoyed some of your reviews, comments and ideas. I realized that I don’t retain a copy of your essay once I return the graded copy to you.

Could you please submit your past essays by email attachment to i594a at cs ? PDF will be appreciated. (note the ‘a’ in the email address). If you had submitted handwritten reviews, you need not submit, but in future try to submit a typeset copy. For the email subject, use the short title of the paper as it appears (in square brackets) in the schedule. For instance, your email for the third paper in the list will have the subject “Re: Doppleganger”.

Note that I still require you to submit the reviews on paper in class for grading purposes.

Email marked as spam:”CS594: grades and comments”

Hi Everyone,
FYI, I happened to notice this email from Prof with subject “CS594: grades and comments” flagged as spam.
I almost missed it. It is possible that some of you could have missed this email. Hence posting content below:

=========
Hi,

Your grades for the first four paper reading sessions are available in
the class blog page. (Click on “grades” tab on the left to view your
grades after you login to the wordpress site). If you are not registered
on the blog, please do so to check your future grades. (If you signed up
using an address other than the UIC address, *and* your grades aren’t
visible, let me know.)

Your review / commentary on each paper is graded. The review for each
paper carries 10 points. You are allowed one “free” review. (I will
count all but one for the final grade). Use this “feature” wisely.

I did go through your reviews for all the papers so far and particularly
enjoyed some of your comments. However, some reviews lacked any sort of
punch or insights and seemed very routine. You should think about the
paper before writing the reviews, otherwise it clearly shows! Of course,
I will provide feedback when I grade your reviews.

Your reviews, and more importantly, your understanding of the paper is
going to be better if you read them well in advance and think about how
you would have solved the problems addressed in the paper. Doing this
just before class is not possible, and therefore you’ll need to have
better time management and read the papers well in advance. As a
suggestion, perhaps you could set aside two fixed time slots during
Wed-Sun for this class to read the papers for the following week. You
can also read other papers that interest you well in advance.

Remember that grading for this class is based on your reviews, your
presentation and your project. Take every component of this seriously.
Of course, our main goals are to learn and have fun in the process, so
don’t lose sight of these goals too. You should try and enjoy everything
we do in this class.

Please notify me promptly if you see any mistakes in your grades.

Thanks!

Email list for class

Some of you did not receive the email sent for the paper on timing attacks. The purpose of this blog post is to alert you to any problems of communication we may be having. I would like to resolve this right away. We will use both the blog and email to communicate, so it is important for me to have all of your current email addresses.

I just sent a test mail (with subject “cs594:test”) to everyone in class, to their UIC.edu address. I pulled out your addresses from the class list. I also included the original message for those who didn’t receive it.

If you are in this class, and did NOT get this email, let me know that as well. This will help us investigate where the problem is. If you got both emails, then please ignore and move on.

Also, if you want me to send you email to a different address, please let me know, by responding to that email.
